Richmond, Texas, Chief Information Officer and Director, Patrick Witham announces the formation of CLARCO Pharma, LLC, a joint venture research and development company. In recent years, costs for many ophthalmic pharmaceutical products have risen significantly. CLARCO Pharma recognizes this and is placing special emphasis on production processes that can help in reducing such costs. Adding to these costs are royalties paid for use in certain formulae. CLARCO Pharma will utilize an experienced team of biochemists to produce alternative, superior formulations that do not require such royalty payments thus reducing practitioner cost. CLARCO Pharma expects to introduce a new ComfortMAXT formulation for fluorscein-benoxinate in the near term. This new formulation avoids the use of preservatives such as benzalkonium chloride and thimerosal. Despite costing less to the practitioner, the ComfortMAXT formulas are expected to provide maximum comfort when compared to other fluorescein-anesthetic products. Products developed through CLARCO will be available through authorized distributors only. "Two initial distributors offering the ComfortMAX& trade formulas include EyeSupply USA and CYNACON/OCuSOFT®, and more will be added", Witham noted.
