Blepharitis
Blepharitis is an inflammatory condition affecting the eyelids. Virtually everyone will experience Blepharitis at some point in their lives. The most helpful way to prevent Blepharitis from occurring is ongoing ocular hygiene.
Blepharitis is seen most commonly in adults. Factors believed to contribute to Blepharitis include abnormalities in oil gland function and an alteration in bacterial colonies that normally live on the skin. Blepharitis is not contagious and cannot be passed from one person to another.
The following symptoms are common (Note: Symptoms may vary): itching, burning, scratchiness, foreign body sensation, excessive tearing crusty scaling around the eyelashes, especially upon waking. Your doctor can help definitively diagnose this condition by careful examination of the eyelid margins. In some instances, Dry Eye symptoms can be associated with blepharitis.
The mainstay of therapy is improved lid hygiene. This alone may enable you to control symptoms and prevent further complications.
Stages of Blepharitis
Stage 1 - No scaling

Stage 2 - Trace scaling and mucous

Stage 3 - Some scaling and trace mucous

Stage 4 - Marked scaling, pus, redness and lid edema
Cosmetic Allergies
The popularity of cosmetics is evidenced by the astounding number of make-up products on the market. While most women use these products without issue, others can experience troublesome allergic reactions. With its proximity to the eye, the use of mascara can present specific challenges, such as allergic reactions and/or infections around the eyelid, or of the eye itself. Symptoms can include redness, itching, swelling, and breakouts resembling hives. In very rare cases, vision loss may also occur.
When allergy symptoms present themselves, switching cosmetics may be the best solution. OCuSOFT products are specifically designed for those who have experienced irritation or allergic reactions from other cosmetic brands. Our products, like the many treatments for sensitive eyes we have developed, help prevent ocular conditions and promote long-term visual health. OCuSOFT Mascara for sensitive eyes does not contain thimerosal, a possible allergen common in cosmetics, and dries quickly to prevent flaking that can cause eyelid irritation.
OCuSOFT also offers an eye make-up remover that is non-irritating to the sensitive eye. This make-up virtually eliminates the side effects associated with solution mistakenly entering the eye. Together, OCuSOFT Sensitive Eyes Formula Mascara and OCuSOFT Eye Make-Up Remover, create effective and proven cosmetic treatments for sensitive eyes.
