    What is Retaine MGD?

Retaine* is a revolutionary preservative-free ophthalmic emulsion that contains mineral oil and targets all three layers of the tear film to protect moderate to severe Dry Eyes.

Novasorb is a proprietary cationic oil emulsion technology that effectively delivers ingredients through electrostatic attraction between positively charged nano-droplets and the negatively charged ocular surface.

→ Electrostatic attraction binds positively charged ions to the negatively charged corneal epithelium

→ Replenishes the lipid layer of the tear film to protect against moisture loss and provide long-lasting comfort

*Retaine MGD is only available in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Retaine® MGD® is a licensed product of Santen. 1Ousler III, George, et al. “An evaluation of Retaine ophthalmic emulsion in the management of tear film stability and ocular surface staining in patients diagnosed with dry eye.” Clinical Ophthalmology 9 (2015): 235-43. Web. 5 Feb. 2015.

Ocular StainingSignificant Reduction in Fluorescein Staining in Central and Corneal Sum

Subjects had significantly less corneal fluorescein staining in the superior (P=0.002), central (P=0.017), corneal sum (P=0.011) and all ocular regions combined (P=0.038) than on the first visit.

A statistically significant reduction (approximately 40%) was observed in mean breakup area on the second visit between the predose time and the postdose time (P=0.026).

Retaine has a natural osmocorrective effect resulting in improved hydration, cell integrity and tear dilution.

Dr. McDonald “Achieving statistically significant improvements in both signs and symptoms is extremely challenging, as evidenced by the high number of clinical trials involving therapy for Dry Eye. The significant improvements in both signs and symptoms with Retaine indicate that it is an effective therapy for dry eye patients. The reduction in central corneal staining is especially important from a clinical perspective, as the central cornea is critical to visual function.”
